With the goal of internationalizing Ohio State's comprehensive range of activities in research, education, and engagement, the Office of International Affairs (OIA) partners with Ohio State academic units to develop and manage a wide array of international collaborations, from general Memoranda of Understanding to more specific joint efforts, which are formalized as Memoranda of Agreement or Student Exchange Agreements.
The Office of International Affairs facilitates the development of formal international agreements, which are driven by Ohio State faculty, deliver specific, mutually agreed upon outcomes, and serve to enhance and further the university’s strategic international goals.
Develop and implement new and established guidelines and policies for international agreements, including MOAs, MOUs and Student Exchanges.
Ohio State welcomes international delegations to campus for short-term visits to facilitate mutually beneficial partnerships, explore research and educational collaborations and share knowledge and expertise with institutions of higher education and government entities around the globe.
International visitors (non-government officials) who would like to meet with Ohio State faculty for the purpose of exploring potential partnerships and educational exchanges and faculty or staff who wish to host an international delegation must complete a formal request form. The information provided will help the university facilitate a visit that will be mutually beneficial and enables the tracking of international engagements. The request must be received four weeks in advance of the proposed arrival in the United States so that university staff can secure the resources necessary and plan an itinerary.
If a university department, faculty or staff member is requesting or planning to host international visitors, they will serve as the university lead and will develop the itinerary in consultation with the Office of International Affairs to ensure appropriate requirements are met.
International governmental entities as well as faculty and staff wishing to host foreign government officials should follow protocols that require Ohio State to review engagements the university has with government agencies and individuals from a foreign country. To assist with reviewing foreign government visit requests, an Oversight Committee provides assessment and guidance. Guidelines are outlined in the Protocol for Foreign Government Official Requests and a formal request form must be submitted. The request must be received four weeks in advance of the proposed arrival in the United States so that university staff can secure the resources necessary and plan an itinerary.
Unless otherwise designated, the lead contact for the university with regard to visits, events, and the administration of the protocols for visit requests by foreign government officials will be the Office of International Affairs.
Questions related to international visitors and visit requests by foreign government officials may be directed to Elizabeth Angerman, program manager, International Partnerships.
International faculty, researchers and staff seeking to join Ohio State as a J-1 visiting scholar, H1-B specialty occupation worker or TN temporary worker category should visit oia.osu.edu/international-scholars for more information.
