Abhaya Indrayan completed his PhD in biostatistics at Ohio State in 1977 and was a visiting professor from 1983 - 1984. Indrayan associates his successful career to the problem-based learning in the statistics lab and the teaching of Douglas Wolfe and Ransom Whitney, his favorite professors. As a student, Indrayan’s favorite place on campus was the Oval.

Indrayan, now living in Noida, is a specialist in biostatistics research in health and medicine and is the only biostatistician to be elected as a Fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences. He has written over 200 publications and books including The Concise Encyclopedia of Biostatistics for Medical Professionals.

Clients of Indrayan include the World Health Organization, the World Bank, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, the Danish Assistance to the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Max Healthcare Institute in New Delhi. For over 30 years, Indrayan was a faculty member at Delhi University’s College of Medical Sciences where he founded the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics.
