The China Gateway, established in 2010 and located in Shanghai, builds upon Ohio State's long-standing partnerships and strategic engagement with China. The Gateway fosters connections and facilitates opportunities for students, researchers, alumni and partners.
From Columbus, Ohio, to Shanghai, China, the China Gateway helps Ohio State remain connected to alumni and friends in the region. By 2021, six Ohio State alumni clubs have been established in the Greater China region including Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Chengdu and Taiwan. The China Gateway strives to provide resources to incoming students, promote academic programs and identify internships for students to gain practical experiences in their future careers. Since 2012, the China Gateway has partnered with the Offices of International Affairs, Student Academic Success and Student Life to host Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) and offered an opportunity for future students and their families to learn important information about Ohio State before traveling to the United States. The China Gateway's robust social media strategy is catered to its Chinese audience with Weibo, Wechat, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram accounts that are followed by more than 50,000 Buckeyes and friends.
The China Gateway office has seen tremendous growth and has been at the forefront engaging students, faculty, alumni, parents, university and business partners with Ohio State and China.

Phoebe You
Phoebe You, a 2009 Moritz College of Law Master of Laws graduate, is the director of the China Gateway. You, a native of Weihai, Shandong, China, graduated with her LLB from East China University of Science and Technology before attending Ohio State. At Moritz, she interned at Schottenstein Zox & Dunn in Columbus as well as worked as a research assistant for Moritz Professor Daniel Chow.
Based in Shanghai, You focuses on developing a network of Ohio State alumni, exploring the market for executive training opportunities for Ohio State and providing assistance and opportunities to the potential exchange of faculty and students. Rachel Yu
Rachel Yu graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in education and got her master's degree in counseling from the University of Pennsylvania. Roger Williams
Roger Williams
Roger Williams, associate professor of forest ecosystem analysis and management at the School of Environment and Natural Resources in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, is the academic director for the China Gateway. Williams has long-standing connections with China including actively working with Northeast Forestry University to develop student exchange and education abroad opportunities, serving as director of the China Undergraduate Research Abroad Program in partnership with Guangxi Ecological Engineering Vocational and Technical Institute, and he has hosted and worked with visiting scholars from China. In addition to his faculty appointment, Williams serves as a part-time senior advisor to connect with Ohio State’s 15 colleges and regional campuses to identify new partnership opportunities abroad. He works across disciplines to leverage existing connections and build strong relationships between Ohio State colleges/units and external partners.
