Hannah Grayem studied abroad in Paphos, Cyprus, on the Geography of the European Union program, in May 2018. She is a sophomore majoring in finance and minoring in legal foundations of society.
I chose this study abroad program because of the unique location and cultural experience. The historical monuments, traditional Greek cuisine, perfect Mediterranean climate, natural beauty of the island, and rich cultural diversity provided for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Our professor, Dr. Constantinou, and his Greek Cypriot ethnicity, made the country all the more welcoming.
My most transformational moment abroad was attending the Cypriot night at the Coral Beach Hotel and Resort on our last night in Cyprus. There were dozens of tables covered with the Cypriot dishes that we had been learning about and trying for weeks. We also participated in traditional Greek dancing with native Cypriots and other tourists staying at the resort. It was an amazing way to end our stay on the island.
I would encourage every student to take the opportunity to study abroad at Ohio State. This experience has not only provided me with a global perspective, but also lifelong friends.
