Fisher College of Business Partners with Tata Management Training Center

The Fisher College of Business hosted a training program focused on key functional areas of business leadership and performance including innovation and disruption, operational excellence, managerial economics, strategy and markets, finance, accounting and leadership principles and practices at the Pune campus of Tata Management Training Center November 11-22, 2019. The curriculum was designed for the Tata Group eMerging Leaders by Fisher College of Business Executive Education and emphasized active learning that included classroom activities based largely on case discussions, simulations and other group exercises.

The first cohort for the program consisted of 31 participants from Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Jaguar-Land Rover and Tata Teleservice from India and Europe. Four faculty from the Fisher College of Business and one from the Tata Management Training Center were engaged during the entire 12-day training program including the Fisher College of Business Dean Anil Makihja who interacted with the participants through video conference and shared his insights on the relationship between Ohio State and Tata.

The academic director for the program was Peter Ward, Richard M. Ross Chair of Management, a professor of Management Sciences and director of the Center for Operational Excellence.

 “Tata Group eMerging Leaders provided a wonderful opportunity to interact with emerging leaders from a world class company about cutting edge management thinking. I know that Fisher faculty look forward to many more interactions,” Ward said.

Aravind Chandrasekaran, associate professor of Operations, associate director of the Center for Operational Excellence, and academic director of the Master of Business Operational Excellence said, “The Tata Group eMerging Leaders program allows Fisher faculty to interact with the emerging leaders from a large Indian conglomerate. This allows us to bring some of these discussions back to Columbus, Ohio to the American context.”

Emmanuel David, the director of the Tata Management Training Center shared his rich experience from his October visit at Ohio State with the program participants and spoke on his vision towards institutional collaboration with Ohio State.

“The Ohio State University enjoys a long-standing association with the Tata Group,” David said.  “The Tata brand promise of ‘Leadership with Trust’ and the Fisher Executive Education’s mission to help companies grow by helping to grow their people is a partnership of like-mindedness. We believe this will help the leaders who attend our programs to drive their growth and collaborate to create learning Experiences that are not just informative but are also transformative.”

Martin Schwalbe, director for Growth and Learning for the Fisher College of Business Executive Education, has been instrumental in developing the contract and was supported by Manoj Garai, business development specialist for the India Gateway.

Nikhil Tambe, director of the India Gateway, added, “The team is glad to be an intrinsic partner to Ohio State stakeholders, acting as enablers and catalysts in developing and grooming mutually beneficial relationships.”
