Serbian delegation visits Ohio State during midterm elections.

The Serbian Educational Alliance brought a delegation to Ohio to observe the U.S. midterm elections in November. Directed by Ohio State professor Angela Brintlinger and University of Belgrade Dean Dragan Simić, the university partnership is designed to strengthen and support academic connections between the University of Belgrade’s Centre for Studies of the United States of America and the Faculty of Political Science (FPN) and The Ohio State University.

During the ten-day program, the Serbian delegation — five faculty and two master’s students — explored Cleveland by visiting the Cuyahoga Board of Elections, the Serbian Cultural Garden, the West Side Market, the St. Theodosius Orthodox Church, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They also cheered the Cleveland Cavaliers to a victory over the Boston Celtics at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

In Columbus Dean Simić presented his new book on Woodrow Wilson, FDR, and their world order, while professors Milan Krstic and Nikola Jovic presented public opinion polling research from Serbia via zoom at an event sponsored by the Serbian Educational Alliance, Center for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies (CSEEES), FPN, Northwestern University and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.

The Serbian students visited classes and the Hilandar Research Library, attended the CSEEES graduate student lecture by PhD candidate Chris Kinley, and interacted with graduate students from the Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures and CSEEES. The entire delegation participated in events at the Mershon Center for International Security Studies, including a post-election roundtable.
